Sporting's summer plans are going well - Mander

First published in Sport

BROMSGROVE Sporting's preparations for the coming season are in good shape, says manager Adrian Mander.

The Rouslers boss has revealed all of last season's players are keen to play for the Victoria Ground outfit.

The means the likes of 45 goal top-scorer Mark Bellingham, Chris Russell and Sean Williams have all committed themselves for the 2014-15 season.

Sporting will be aiming to build on last season's strong finish and second place in the Midland Combination Premier.

The division will be called the Midlands Division One after the Combination League and the Midlands Alliance merged this summer.

Mander has looked to bolster his side's defensive options with the addition of Stourport Swifts defender Dan Parker.

Keiran Parsons, who used to play in the reserves for Stoke City, has also increased competition at the back.

Parsons had been playing Sunday League football and so has new signing central midfielder Paul Arnold.

With training starting on Saturday ahead of the season's commencement on Saturday, August 2, Mander is expecting 30 players to attend before numbers are inevitably whittled down.

He said: "Things are looking good at the moment, all the lads from last season have said they want to play for us.

"We're also looking to strengthen to make sure we've got plenty of competition for places, which is important as we want to push on."

Former manager Graham Scott has returned to the club after a spell as assistant boss at Studley with a role overseeing the under-17s and 21s sides.

Sporting are also having to rearrange several of their pre-season games after two of their friendly opponents ended up in the Midlands Division One.

Hinckley United, who Sporting were set to entertain on July 26, are in Bromsgrove's league, while Highgate United are awaiting the outcome of their appeal against relegation. Bromsgrove had been set to play them on July 29 at the Victoria Ground.

Sporting's first pre-season clash is away at Stratford on Saturday, July 12 (2.30pm ko).
