BROMSGROVE tasted their first defeat of the season in the Birmingham and District League Division One as they paid the price for a disastrous batting display against Moseley on Saturday.

The Boars' normally solid batting order failed to fire as they suffered an eight wicket defeat in Birmingham.

Captain Mark Evenson had won the toss and opted to bat first.

Openers Ashley Newdick and Joe Dodd provided a solid start but were dismissed for 17 and 25 respectively.

Alexei Kervezee (1) was caught by Abdul Hafeez (4-25) off the bowling of Neville Talbot, while Jayden Levitt (27) offered resistance before falling victim to Ali Awan.

With Levitt dismissed, Bromsgrove's resistance effective ended as they were dismissed for 115 in 41 overs.

With a mountain to climb, Graeme Whiles made an early breakthrough when he had Usman Shabir caught by Tom Underhill for five runs.

But Talbot (42), Asim Shoaib (37no) and Inderpal Singh Nandra (28no) comfortably Moseley to 116-2 in 21 overs.

Evenson said: "It was a strange game. We won the toss and the ticket was a little warn but we thought our spinners would get the best out of it later on.

"Unfortunately, the wicket played two different ways. But we didn't look after our wickets enough and paid the price."

Bromsgrove slipped to second in the table and they trail title rivals Ombersley by 15 points.

They will be aiming to bounce back at home to mid-table Harborne on Saturday (noon start). With Worcestershire's Kervezee still available, they are expected to be full strength.

"Hopefully, Saturday was a one-off and we'll be hoping to bounce back against Harborne," added Evenson.
