AVONCROFT suffered a five-wicket defeat title-chasing Stourport in the Worcestershire County League Division Three on Saturday.

The hosts won the toss and opted to bat first but they were restricted by some fine bowling from Matt Delo (4-49) and skipper Craig Siwicki (3-49) to a well below par 199.

Matt Hare (42) and Ben Warwick (35) top-scored with the bat got Croft.

In reply, Stourport looked to finish the game as quickly as possible with opener Spencer Colley hitting a quickfire 21.

Fifty-nine runs from Ryan Delo and 53 from Chris Parry took Stourport to the brink of victory and they ran out winners in just the 23rd over when they reached 203-5.

David James bagged two wickets and there was one each for Daniel Elliott, Will Sach and Warwick.

Croft are sixth in the table and go to Alvechurch and Hopwood in Saturday (1pm start).

Meanwhile, Chaddesley Corbett got the better of Netherton by seven wickets.

After winning the toss, Corbett elected to bowl and dismissed Netherton for 162 in the 49th over.

Muhammad Saddiq (7-57), Shahead Zia (2-11) and Tahi Khan (1-40) took the wickets.

Rajib Lodh then smashed 85, while Joe Lawton (23no) and Chris Mole (15no) helped steer them to 164-3 in the 34th over.

Victory means Chaddesley are fourth in the table. They go to Ross on Wye in the league on Saturday (1pm start).
