BROMSGROVE Men’s D team sealed a 4-2 away victory against Hagley A to go top of Division Eight and make it eight wins in a row.

Captain Mel McGregor successfully tried new pairings He teamed up with fellow veteran Andy Hewston and despite a hard three set battle against the Hagley’s second pair, the Bromsgrove duo emerged triumphant against them and Hagley Thirds.

There was also a great performance from second pair Jack Walters and Tim Roland, who despatched the opposition’s third duo and pushed Hagley Firsts all the way in a tense three-set match before going down 6-4.

Bromsgrove’s first pair of Chris Hands and Trevor Errington took a while to adapt to the courts and went down against their opposite pair before comfortably seeing off Hagley.

Captain McGregor said: “With just two matches to go we’ve put ourselves in a strong position for promotion as champions, and the whole squad is focussed on going through the season undefeated.”

The Ladies B team enjoyed a 6-0 win against Ombersley A team in Division Two.

Many of the contests were close, and a number of tie-breaks played. However, the Bromsgrove squad of Sophie Cornelius with Joan McGregor, Abbey Henderson, Millie Doherty, Debbie Oliver and Ann Banner all showed they have the strength to come through tough matches, even when they lose the opening set.

A resounding 6-0 victory for the Ladies C team eased their relegation fears at home against Blakedown, with the scoreline failing reflect how hard the team fought.

First pair of Connie Wedelich with Sheila Richardson came back strongly after losing the first set, and it set the tone for a battling performance from the squad.

They were well supported by Sue Murray, Sarah Davies, Lorraine Russell and Sue Forest, who all put in strong performances.

It was not such good news for the E team, who went down 6-0 to Bewdley C.

For many of the squad, this is their first season playing competitive tennis and captain Avril Pugh has been pleased with their development, as many are finding matchplay different from social tennis.

The Mixed C beat MCSA in Division Three 3-1.
