CRICKET: Droitwich had to settle for a losing draw in Saturday’s home encounter to Colwall in Worcestershire Division One, despite being in a position of strength on several occasions during the match.

Although fielding a weakened side, Spa let the visitors escape from 60-4 to reach 140 with 15 overs left and wickets in hand.

Colwall were eventually dismissed for 188, with Max Young claiming four wickets.

At 40 without loss after eight overs of their reply, Droitwich looked well placed with Kris Corbett and Martyn Davies batting comfortably on a flat wicket.

However, after three wickets were lost for eight runs, Davies and Gary Cartwright began to re-build the innings before the latter was brilliantly caught at deep extra cover with the score on 90.

Despite the best efforts of Davies – who batted valiantly for 56 before being sixth out – Spa finished on 157-9 with Jez Hanson staving off defeat with an unbeaten 16.
