DAN Protherough wants Bromsgrove to kick-off their Finstall Park fixtures with a bang when they entertain Bournville on Saturday.

The relegated Boars showed encouraging signs despite their 36-18 defeat, at South Leicester, on the opening day of the National League Three Midlands.

Bromsgrove are keen to arrest a winless run of ten home games, having not won at Finstall Park since since November 16, 2013.

“I think this division is very much about winning your home games first,” said head coach Protherough.

“If you manage to win some matches away from home on top of that, then it gives you a chance of getting promoted.

“It’s our first home game of the season and we want to make sure we get off to a good start.

“We learned there were a few areas that need improving after South Leicester but I was encouraged by lots of things.”

Against South Leicester, Bromsgrove more than matched the home side but fell away in the final 15 minutes.

Leicester took an early lead with a penalty from their accomplished fly half Ricky Aley but Ben Meadow touched down to fire the away side ahead.

Ieuan Mustoe charge down a kick to go over for a score and Richard Mahoney converted as Bromsgrove went 12-3 ahead.

But Leicester hit back and a try for Will Cave, followed by a conversion and a penalty for Aley, putting the hosts 15-13 up.

A Mahoney penalty edged Bromsgrove ahead at the start of the second half and David Hughes came close to setting up a try, but his final pass was intercepted.

But a burst by Chris Bales allowed Lee Robinson to score in the corner and Leicester further extended their lead when Wesley Cope went over and Aley added the extras.

Mahoney pulled a penalty back for Bromsgrove but two more Aley penalties and a try by winger Connor Smith sealed the Boars’ defeat.

Phil Horton is a doubt for Saturday’s clash (3pm ko).
