  •  Droitwich Spa Ladies maintained their excellent start to the new season with a 3-1 home win against Wyre Forest Phoenix, to record Spa’s second consecutive win in their first season in the West Midlands Women’s Regional League.

Having won their first game at this level last Sunday, against Coventry Development, this was another excellent test of the league’s newcomers.

A tense start to the game saw Wyre Forest have a majority of the possession without ever really looking like breaking down the strong Droitwich defence.

Spa always looked dangerous and created several good chances, one of which saw April Polden hit the post.

Droitwich were eventually rewarded for their efforts after 33 minutes when Polden struck a fierce volley into the roof of the Wyre Forest net.

Although conceding an equaliser direct from a free kick, Droitwich restored their goal advantage a minute before the break when Polden again found the target.

She completed her hat-trick and sealed the victory, latching onto a mistake from the Wyre Forest keeper to slide the ball into an empty net.

Head coach Ian Fry said: “This was a fantastic victory for us. The start was always going to be a really tough test for us.

"We have come through it brilliantly with two excellent performances."

  •  Droitwich Spa Veterans continued their winning start to the season with a 7-0 victory over Handsworth Athletic to firmly cement their place at the top of the table.

A solid performance allowed Mark Owen to show off his goal-scoring talents with contributions from Jon Bellamy and Chris Everett.
