FINSTALL flyer Jessica Varnish confirmed her position as one of Britain’s leading riders by winning four titles at the National Track Championships.

The 23-year-old demonstrated fine form in Manchester as she stormed to success in the women’s 500-metre time trial, individual sprint, team sprint and keirin events.

The Bromsgrove rider, who was representing team V-Sprint, repeated her success last year by taking four titles.

She made the perfect start to the Championships in the time trial by storming to success in 34.897 seconds, with Vicky Williamson second and Katy Marchant third.

She said: “It’s nice to retain a title and the 500m is an important event.”

Varnish, who is also a life member of Halesowen CC, then grabbed her second piece of silverware when she raced to gold in the women’s individual sprint on Friday night.

She had qualified in third place in the flying 200m stage but then cruised through the rounds with consummate ease.

Up against Katy Marchant in the final, Varnish comfortably won the first race but had to dig deep in the second before sealing first place.

She then teamed up with Dani Khan in the team sprint, just edging out Marchant and Vicky Williamson, who were representing the North West, by 0.173 seconds.

Finally, she made sure of her awesome foursome on Sunday in the keirin.

After comfortably making it through the qualifying round, Varnish left it late when she overtook Marchant, who eventually finished third, with 100 metres to go.

She added: “I am really happy to be on the podium again.

“It was really close and I’m happy Dani got second.

“It gives me good momentum for the bigger races now it’s the start of our season.”

It’s been a great year for the track rider so far.

After overcoming an injury which kept her out of action for most of 2013, Varnish won bronze medals in the time trial and individual sprint at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in the summer.
