Droitwich 25, Nuneaton Old Edwardians 10

DROITWICH turned in one of their best displays of the season in the Midlands Division Two West (South).

Nuneaton had started the better and were soon 10-0 up after scoring a penalty and converted try.

But Spa stepped up a gear and, after a good turnover by Russell Brown, they were awarded a penalty, which Bobby Scott-Walker added.

A strong run from Joseph Roberts earned another penalty, which Scott-Walker again converted to add another three points.

Spa were now on top and were awarded another three penalties in the first half, which Scott-Walker added with no trouble, including one from very far out, to take a 15-10 lead.

In the second half, Samuel Davenport continued the Droitwich dominance with typically good runs into the visitor’s half.

James Shewell produced some samba-like footwork to go past a few defenders and feed Christopher Danks, who scored under the posts, giving Droitwich a valuable 12-point lead.

Spa were now under pressure again but last ditch tackles from Benjamin Rean and Stephen Poke typified Droitwich’s desire to defend the lead.

After a penalty was awarded to Spa, a quick tap from Scott-Walker to beat two players saw him find William Baillon, who was illegally tackled ten metres into the visitors’ half.

Spa opted for the posts and a remarkable kick by Scott-Walker against the wind sailed through the posts to put Droitwich 15 points ahead of Nuneaton, to cement the much-needed victory for the home side. Scott-Walker finished the game with 20 points, in what was a faultless kicking display.

Hooker Joseph Roberts said he was thrilled by the confidence-boosting win.
