FAIRFIELD Villa edged Knowle 3-2 in the Midlands Division Two.

Goals for Ellis Blakemore, Peter Jenvey and Connor Collins made sure of back-to-back wins for the Recreation Ground outfit.

It means the sixth-placed side go into Saturday’s derby against Droitwich Spa in good form (2pm ko).

Second from bottom Spa’s hopes of keeping the pressure on the teams above suffered a setback after they were edged out 2-1 by mid-table Hampton.

Goals for Simon Hinsley and Steve Joynes in the final 15 minutes stunned them.

l Meanwhile, Lee Adams described Alvechurch’s defending against Brocton as ‘woeful’ after Saturday’s 4-4 draw in the Midlands Premier.

The Lye Meadow outfit had previously beaten Brocton 4-1 twice in league and cup but the manager felt his his side paid the price for a lack of focus.

Gareth Evans bagged a hat-trick as Church led the game 1-0, 2-1 and 3-2 at various stages of the game only to find themselves trailing 4-3 with ten minutes left.

With Ash Malhotra injured and Dan Platt not available, Adams drafted in goalkeeper Gary Price, the eighth custodian used by the club this season.

Brocton had two players dismissed late on and James Cosgrave ensured a point when he rose highest in time added on and headed home.

Adams said: “I had warned the players before the game about complacency against Brocton but they clearly didn’t listen to me because we defended woefully.

“We had Gary Price playing for us and he’s the eighth keeper we’ve had this season so that probably disrupted the back four.

“We had been defending well up until this game but Brocton have also been scoring a few goals as well.

“I don’t think we conceded a good goal in that game but I was pleased with the way we went forward.

“What is pleasing is that we’ve started scoring a few goals and long may that continue.”

Alvechurch will be aiming to extend their four-game unbeaten run when they entertain Coventry Sphinx on Boxing Day (noon kick-off).

They head into their festive fixtures 12th in the league.

Dan Platt is set to return between the sticks for the village side.

Adams said: “It’s another tough game for us but we’re looking forward to the game. Dan coming back is a big lift and I hopefully we will get back to our solid ways again.”
