BROMSGROVE Men found table-topping Finchfield too hot to handle as they suffered an 8-1 loss in the West Midlands Premier.

The Boars only had 12 players and defended stoutly before Finchfield made the breakthrough.

Mark Robinson scored Bromsgrove’s only goal.

The Ladies first team filled their boots as they got the better of Harborne fourths 6-0.

They started sluggishly but took control with a four-player move including Naomi Cartwright, Clare Rippin and Maz Cooksey that was coolly finished by Vic Longmore.

Bromsgrove increased their lead when Longmore broke from the halfway line and easily beat the Harborne keeper. A third soon followed as Heather Nunnerley tidied up a penalty corner routine which had broken down.

Their fourth goal arrived just before half-time from a team effort in which Longmore completed her hat-trick.

Bromsgrove controlled the second half and saw Longmore and Rippin add to their tallies.

The Men’s seconds drew 2-2 against Stafford, with Matt Russell maintained his excellent scoring record with a neat finish from a penalty corner.

Stafford levelled but Bruce Turner then edged the Boars ahead before he conceded an unfortunate own goal.

The Ladies seconds romped to a 7-0 win over Old Halesonians, with Vicki Powell bagging a hat-trick as well as Justine Postones (2), Lisa Smiley and Wendy Martin.

The Men’s thirds were edged out 2-1 by Solihull Blossomfield.

There was a defeat for the Ladies fourths as they went down 2-0 to Worcester.

The improvement from the first meeting, where Bromsgrove lost 5-0, was remarkable, and the side can take great credit.
