FAIRFIED Villa made it three wins in a row and avenged defeat earlier in the season when they got the better of Barnt Green Spartak 2-1 in the Midlands Division Two on Saturday.

Goals for Connor Collins and Ellis Blakemore saw off Spartak, who had been leading the chase for second place.

Collins had slotted home from a penalty in the ninth minute after Blakemore was brought down in the box.

Meanwhile, Blakemore finished off a slick attacking move in the 79th minute.

Spartak pulled a consolation effort back in the game’s dying minutes but it could not detract from a fine Villa display.

Victory means seventh-placed Fairfield are still very much in the hunt to chase down second place.

Leicester United are currently in the runners-up spot with a seven-point lead over Fairfield but Oakes believes his side can reel them in.

Joint manager Paul Oakes said: “It was a great display and 2-1 flatters Barnt Green because we had other chances to increase our lead.

“We’ve won three games in a row and we’ve certainly got a chance of second place.”

Villa have also drafted Victoria Barnt Green hitman Richard Bishop as back-up.

With keeper Chris Moles has set to miss several games at the end of the season, former Wolverhampton Casuals keeper Ryan Taylor has been drafted in as back-up.

Fairfield play Coton Green away on Saturday, who are bottom of the table (3pm ko).

Oakes added: “Coton beat us 1-0 in the league, it was a game where we missed a lot of chances but we bounced back well and beat them 11-0.”
