FAIRFIELD Villa will be looking to end a fine season on a high when they take on Inkberrow in the final of the Worcester Junior Cup on Thursday night (7.30pm ko).

After sealing third place in the Midlands Division Two, Villa go to the game at the Victoria Ground in high spirits.

But they face an Inkberrow side who have proved to be a bogey team over the years, while Fairfield will be looking to win a competition they have won just once despite reaching the final five times.

They boast a nearly full-strength squad but will be without the suspended John Pykett, who faces a three-game ban.

It will also be 44-goal ace Connor Collins’ final game for the club as he in demand from higher-level sides.

Joint manager Paul Oakes said: “Inkberrow are a bit of a bogey side for us and they have knocked us out of this competition for before.

“But we’d love to win this competition.

“It’s also Connor Collins’ last game for us. He was true to his word when he said he’d stick with us but I know a lot of clubs are very interested in him.”

Villa rounded off their league campaign with a 3-0 win over FC Glades Sporting, with goals for Ellis Blakemore, Matthew Collins Thomas and James Wells.

While they finished level on points with second-placed Leicester Road, the Hinckley-based outfit had a much bigger goal difference.

Oakes added: “The top two deserved to finish where they are and fair play to them. We’ve ended the season really strong but we’ve got to look back to our 1-0 loss to bottom side Aston, which was their only win all season.

“It has haunted us all campaign and We really struggled for consistency early on, but once we found a settled side we were flying.”
