DROITWICH Spa are set to take a big leap forward after sealing sponsorship deals which ensures the future of the club for the next two years.

Spa have secured sponsorship from MB Insolvency and Central Stairlifts, in agreements which will help fund the club up until the end of the 2016-17 season.

It means the club will have to cover the cost of playing in the Midlands Division Two, which include referee fees.

Droitwich have also lined-up Macron to provide two kits and training gear, while landlords Wychavon Leisure are also committed to providing facilities for the club.

Joint manager Wayne Oliver said: “Mark Bowen is a very good friend of mine and we’re delighted to have MB Insolvency and Central Stairlifts sponsoring the club.

“Running a club in the Midlands Division Two is very expensive, but this deal gives us two years grace in terms of looking for funding and gives us a chance to take the club forward.

“It’s an exciting time for the club and the sponsorship means we can look ahead to next season very positively.

“Ben and Andy Pheasant have done an absolutely brilliant job finding funding and this deal means they won’t have to do that.”

On the pitch, Spa finished off the league with 2-1 win over Aston, as James Lemon and James Ward hit the back of the net.

Droitwich finished in eighth place and were the division’s form team, after eight wins in the last nine games.

Oliver and joint manager Mark Owen took over in October when they were bottom of the table and have transformed the fortunes of Spa.

“We were the form team in the league and the lads have done very well,” added Oliver.

“We started off bottom, but have ended the season on a fantastic run of results.

“With the new backing, we’re under pressure to make sure we build on what we have achieved this season.”

Droitwich take on Malvern away on Thursday (7.30pm ko) in the semi-finals of the Evesham Hospital Cup.
