THE runs flowed at St Peter’s Fields on Saturday as Droitwich’s batsmen ensured emphatic victories for both the First and Third teams.

Brothers-in-arms Max and Jake Young shared an opening stand of 151 to guide the firsts to a comfortable nine-wicket win over Redditch with more than 11 overs to spare.

Max blazed 79 and his younger sibling crafted a delightful 54 not out as the home side breezed past their victory target of 191.

Earlier the Young brothers were part of a bowling attack which held the Redditch innings in check throughout on a superb batting track – only 63 runs being scored in the first 20 overs.

An excellent fielding display in which wicketkeeper Jay De Costa claimed five victims also made sure the visitors were unable to build any momentum.

Maiden centuries and a mammoth unbeaten 291-run third wicket stand between Kieran Wilkins (169 not out) and George Taylor (114 not out) piled further misery on Bewdley who were only able to start the fixture with nine men and went down to eight with an injury.

Making full use of the gaps in the field, Spa racked up a whopping 371-2 and then bowled out their opponents for 135 to claim a 236-run victory and extend their lead at the top of the table – two wickets apiece for Tommy Ross and Mark Smith.

The seconds maintained their winning run and promotion push with a three-wicket success at Harborne.

Despite a tiny boundary just beyond the fielding circle on one side of the ground, Droitwich managed to restrict the home side to 226.

Half-centuries from James Hancher and Jez Hanson then helped the visitors to secure 20 points despite a flurry of late wickets.

Yet another half-century for James King (70) and a captain’s innings from Simon Holliday (56) weren’t enough for the fourths, who succumbed to a four-wicket defeat against Evesham as Spa failed to post more than 223 when well placed for a much bigger score.
