BROMSGROVE earned promotion back to the National League after defeating Cardiff.

After winning the Hereford and Worcs Aegon league they then beat Shropshire champions Wem to set up a final play-off against the Welsh team.

Bromsgrove made a good start as Adam Dudek and captain Matt Kirkham won both their singles comfortably.

Cardiff then fought back with Jaspal Saimbi and Ollie Stratford both going down in final set tie breaks to make it 2-2.

The doubles round was even as again Dudek and Kirkham won but Saimbi and Stratford went down in a close match.

This meant a shoot out was needed to settle the match and Bromsgrove's fighting spirit came to the fore as both Dudek and Saimbi won their contests to give Bromsgrove victory and promotion.

Kirkham said: "It's a great result for the club and team and means high quality tennis will be returning to Bromsgrove.

"The whole squad has performed well and when regular players have been unavailable substitutes such as Ollie have stepped in and performed well to ensure our run of success."

A depleted Men's B team took on Stourbridge D in a Division Three encounter.

With juniors George Rogers and Aaron Oakes stepping in to complete the team they just edged a win.

Rutter and Boardman won both their rubbers and Jones with Smith won another to make it 3-3 but Bromsgrove won more sets to take victory.

The Men's C team were away at Droitwich and went down.

Jack Walters with Pete Morris won both contests and Voitek Niedzwiedz with Trevor Errington won one to make it 3-3 on rubbers as John Dudek and Alistair Liddle lost both clashes. However Droitwich took the victory by one set.

Midweek the Men's D Team trounced Boughton C 6-0 to maintain their promotion push in Division Seven.

All pairs played well but the performance of Bruce Turner with Max Feltham was outstanding as they only dropped one game in the match.

The Ladies E team came unstuck in their bid to take the Division Eight title losing 4-2 to David Lloyd Worcester C, but remain on course for promotion if they perform well in their last match.

Finally, the Mixed B team travelled to Bewdley on a wet Tuesday night.

With Joan McGregor returning from injury paired with Trevor Errington and John Dudek playing with Di Wilson they won this Division Three encounter 4-0 without dropping a set.
