HOCKEY: Droitwich Spa Ladies have shown encouraging signs in the Summer League.

They started the season against a young, pacey and physical Malvern College side which ran out 8-1 winners, with Lucy Hine scoring Spa's reply.

Droitwich then came up against a strong Bromsgrove team and were only edged out thanks to second-half goals.

They bagged their first win of the campaign against Kidderminster.

Strikes by Hannah Robson and Lucy Hine put them 2-0 up, only for their rivals to make it 2-2.

Captain Hine bagged the winner from a penalty corner.

Against a strong side from Stourport, Droitwich lost 4-1, despite a goal for the prolific Hine.

The next game against Stourport Blue, was by far and away Spa's best performance as they ran out 5-1 winners over a young team.

Droitwich lost 6-1 to Worcester but bounced back to defeat Bromsgrove 1-0, thanks to Hine's effort from a penalty corner.

In the final game of the summer against Stourport Gold, Spa went down 6-1 to a clinical side.

Hine said: “This Summer League campaign has been pleasing, especially with the three wins, as it shows the group are beginning to play together and having confidence on the ball during this transitional period of time."
