SPA athletic got off to a glorious start to the season win in the Bromsgrove and District League Division One with a outstanding 3-1 victory over local rivals Wychbold RBL.

A stunning effort from his own half from Phil Burton gave them the lead, which then that was doubled by Alex Reynolds. Wychbold scored late on but the victory was sealed when Luke Rainbox slotted home a penalty.

Next up for Athletic play Sporting Rednal at home this weekend.

In the Premier, WCT Youth Raiders started against established league side Rubery Athletic looking to lay down a marker to every body else and this they did so with a 6-1 win victory.

Paul Smith opened the scoring after six minutes when his free-kick curled over the wall and crept inside Jake Doyle's far post.

Lee Davies made it 1-1 but WCT took a lead into half-time thanks to Jamie Heason. Raiders added more goals from Smith, Matt Andrews, Toby Attwood and Andrew Cornes after the break.

  •  Droitwich Veterans over-35s and 50s teams are looking to emulate their Cup and League successes of last season.

Pre-season training is at the Droitwich High School pitch on Wednesdays throughout August at 6.30pm and will be taken by ex-pro Dean Holdsworth, who is a qualified UEFA coach.

Holdsworth played over 610 league games scoring 193 goals mainly for Wimbledon and Bolton and is a resident of the town.
