ANDY Sutton believes that Barnt Green will learn their lessons after a disappointing season in the Birmingham League Premier ended with an 11-run win over Wolverhampton on Saturday.

Green finished eighth in the table during campaign they had entered with high hopes.

The departure of Nathan Newport, injuries to the captain and Matthew Lamb and disappointing player turnout affected the season.

“It has been a tough season and it hasn’t gone to plan but we can learn the lessons and move on,” said the skipper.

“If you look at where we want do well in the league, the National Knockout Cup, 40 over and 20 over we have been disappointing.

“Player turnout has been average this season and we never really replaced some important players who left last winter.

“Injuries and Matt Lamb and myself also did not help, but we can work and improve.

“What has been pleasing is that guys like Ed Pollock and Sam Cheshire have been in very good form, while Darrell Williams and Tom Banton have responded well to more responsibility.

“We are a young team who are still learning at our level of cricket but we will move on.”

Green saw off a Wolverhampton side who just escaped relegation.

The match was reduced to 38 overs a side because of rain.

Green were put into bat but Cheshire (32), Tom Brown (48) and Edward Pollock (106) all got among the runs as Green made 263-3.

Wolverhampton replied well through Matthew Kleinveldt (71) and Adam Lawley (77), but Sutton took four wickets as the Black Country side finished on 252-6.

Sutton said: “It was a good competitive game and the top five batsmen all really did well.”
