JOINT-MANAGER Paul Oakes could not be happier with his team’s performance, despite losing 3-0 to Midlands Division Two pacesetters Alvis Sporting last Saturday.

Fairfield Villa came up against a very strong team, who have won all six of their league games so far, but left with their heads held high.

With Ellis Blakemore and Dan Wilkes in the side after returning to the club following a spell at Pershore, Villa were more than a match before a long-range effort handed Sporting the lead.

Oakes said: “I know it sounds funny because we lost 3-0 but we actually played very well and I am over the moon with the performance.

“I have not been very happy with the performances this season but despite the scoreline we actually did very well.

“Alvis are a very good side, they have a good set-up down there and while they were relegated to our division last season they have strengthened.”

The loss to Sporting was Villa’s fourth straight defeat and Oakes admitted a goal is needed after seeing his side fail to hit the back of the net during that run.

Fairfield have a tough test on Saturday when they take on leaders Chelmsley Town (3pm kick-off).

He said: “All the lads are confident and all we need is a goal to really spark us into life.”
