AFTER a stunning last-gasp victory against Lichfield, head coach Dan Protherough joked that watching his thrilling Bromsgrove RFC side play had turned his hair grey!

The Boars made it four wins in the first five match of the season in the National Division Three Midlands as they edged out their opponents 25-23.

But an unlikely victory was earned, despite a disappointing first half display, by thanks to a late pair of Richard Mahoney penalties.

It’s not the first time under Protherough’s 14 month tenure that Bromsgrove have swash-buckled their way to victory.

He said: “We started slowly in the first half and didn’t really get going until after the break.

“So far this season, we could have lost three of the games we won but what is pleasing is that the team has found a way to win and that’s something which is hard to come by.

“I am pretty sure my hair was black before I took this job and now I am grey. When you win that it’s a great feeling but to lose in that manner is very hard to take.”

Bromsgrove now have turn their attentions to a home game against second from bottom Longton at Finstall Park on Saturday (1.30pm ko).

They suffered another setback as James Shewell (shoulder) and John Mallin (ankle) are doubts for the game after picking up injuries at the weekend.

Protherough added: “Longton got a good win at Sutton two weeks ago so we can’t take them for granted.”

Meanwhile, Droitwich Spa will be aiming to build on their first win of the season when they go to Pinley on Saturday in Midlands Division Two West (South).

The Glynn Mitchell Memorial side have had a free weekend but welcome back Alex Parker and Gregor McLeod.
