FURIOUS Alvechurch boss Ian Long has threatened to make changes following his team's FA Vase exit at the hands of Cleethorpes.

The Lye Meadow missed out on a chance of making the last eight for the first time in their history after losing 2-1 in Lincolnshire.

Josh March had fired them into a very early lead but Church saw a host of chances go to waste.

Karl Edwards saw one effort cleared off the line and another saved by the keeper before second half goals for Jonathan Oglesby and Daniel Trott stunned them.

Long said: "I am devastated to be honest and very disappointed in some of my players.

"We were the better side in the first half and we missed a lot of very good chances to score.

"Karl had about five chances and if we had scored then we'd have won the game.

"We looked comfortable right up until they scored but after that we never looked like getting back into the match.

"We didn't seem to have the energy to recover and Cleethorpe looked comfortable.

"We had a lot of fans come up to watch the game and I can only apologise because what happened in the second half was unacceptable.

"If we had played Cleethorpes ten times we would have eight."

The club also issued an apology following Church's defeat, which ended a 14-game unbeaten run.

They will be aiming to bounce back in the semi-finals of the Worcestershire Senior Urn at home to Highgate United on Tuesday night (7.45.pm ko).

They then resume their Midlands Premier title chase at home to Stourport Swifts on Saturday (3pm ko).

Alvechurch are third but have games in hand on leaders Hereford.

On Tuesday, January 19, they tackle Rocester at home and then go to Hereford on January 23 in a clash of potential title winners (3pm ko).

Long said: "There were a few players I was not happy with at all and they may well find themselves out of the team.

"I expect a response from the players, there is still a lot to be played for."

Meanwhile, the club have released details of their huge top of the table game at Hereford.

The Bulls have been commanding crowds over 4,000 and Church are keen to bring as many fans as possible.

Coaches leave Lye Meadow between 12.30pm and 1pm, with prices £10 for adults and £5 youth members.

Entrance is £8 for adults and £5 youth members.
