BROMSGROVE Sporting’s hopes of persuading Worcester City into a groundshare deal next season could be dashed after the Blues’ chairman said they preferred to remain at Kidderminster Harriers.

Sporting are keen for their county neighbours to move to the Victoria Ground next season.

City currently play at Harriers’ Aggborough ground until the end of the season.

There is an option for that deal to be extended for the 2016-17 campaign if both Harriers and City agree.

But Worcester chairman Anthony Hampson admitted that they are enjoying their spell at Kidderminster and are keen to remain at the Wyre Forest outfit’s home.

He said: “As it stands, we have a contract in place that covers both this season and next season with Kidderminster Harriers.

“Looking at alternatives elsewhere is pure speculation. The club are pleased to be working with Harriers and have been so far this season and into next.

“Our playing staff have been particularly impressed with the standard of pitches the Kidderminster groundstaff have produced in the winter months under trying weather conditions.”

But Sporting chairman Jon Prescott admits the idea of hosting City’s games would provide the club with a welcome cash boost and increase the club’s profile.

While Bromsgrove boast the biggest crowds in the Midlands Division One and saw their record attendance smashed twice over Christmas, the cost of the ground’s upkeep and rent is expensive.

Prescott said: “We’d love to have City here, but we've not spoke to them and nothing's been agreed.

“For a club like us it would provide a welcome revenue stream and be a great honour.

“The Victoria Ground is one of the best in Worcestershire and would only need to be a few cosmetic changes if we agreed a deal with Worcester, but there wouldn’t be a lot of work for us to do.”

Prescott was delighted with recent soaring crowds, which saw attendances of 562, 674 and 412. With the team on a roll and vying with Coventry United for the title, there is a buzz of excitement around Bromsgrove.

Prescott added: “Paul Smith’s got the team playing very well.”
