DROITWICH Spa won’t be taking out-of-sorts Barnt Green Spartak for granted when the two sides clash on Saturday in Midlands Division Two (2pm ko).

Spa are top of the table in contrast to Spartak, who are third from bottom after losing four league games in a row.

But joint manager Wayne Oliver believes Saturday’s derby rivals will prove to be a tough test.

He said: “Barnt Green beat us at home last season and will be dangerous.

“I’ve known their manager GJ Singh a long time and he always fields a team trying to win games.

“They are in a lower position than normal but we’ll be taking them very seriously.”

Spa, who only have three home league matches left, will be aiming to stretch their 17-game unbeaten run in all competitions even further and tighten their grip at the top.

But with just under half of the season left, their fellow title contenders are all jostling to try and overtake Droitwich.

Rostance Edwards are second on 32 points, while Chelmsley Town are third and Alvis Sporting have 28 points and four games in hand on Droitwich.

Oliver said: “The teams below us are the ones I expected to be finishing in the top four.

“They all have games in hand and are in cups so I am hoping they drop points because of the number of fixtures.”

Meanwhile, Droitwich played Dudley Town in a friendly on Saturday and lost 2-1 after their league clash at Fairfield Villa was called off because of a waterlogged pitch.
