PAUL Smith says Bromsgrove Sporting will have to overcome their underdogs tag to lift the Worcestershire Senior Urn when they take Midlands Premier county rivals Alvechurch in the final tonight (7.45pm ko).

While the Rouslers are flying high in Division One, they face an opposition who have impressively pushed Hereford all the way for the title in the level above.

Bromsgrove head into the game in good form after vital wins of Hinckley last week and Coventry Copsewood kept them top of the table.

But Smith, who has watched Church play four times, knows his team face a big test at Evesham United's The Spiers & Hartwell Jubilee Stadium.

He said: "I am sure that if we were promoted to the Premier League that with a small bit of tweaking the squad we have here would be good enough to challenge for promotion.

"But we are the underdogs for this game, Alvechurch have a very good group of players, many of who have experience from levels above.

"But if we play to our best and produce a performance like Hinckley or Coventry United and Alvechurch have an off day, then we can win the Urn."

Sporting maintained their top spot after a 5-2 win over Coventry Copsewood on Saturday, which was hot on the heels of last Tuesday's vital 3-1 win at Hinckley.

Sporting are on 81 points, eight ahead of third-placed Coventry United who have four games in hand.

But United are playing three games a week until the end of the season and Smith is hoping the fixture pile-up will damage their title hopes.

He said: "We have to keep putting the pressure on Coventry United and hope they slip up.

"If they come through nine games in 18 games and win the league then fair play to them."

Sporting maintain their title push at Racing Club Warwick on Saturday (3pm ko).
