DROITWICH’S Lauren Whiteman has put her case strongly to be selected for the Racketlon World Doubles in Copenhagen in July after a host of fine performances.
Whiteman claimed her first English Open title at the Redbridge Sports Centre.
Wins in the table tennis and badminton took the pressure off the squash round, so that despite a 21-9 defeat, Whiteman needed just nine points in the tennis category to see off Jo Shelley’s challenge in the semi-final.
For the Elite Women’s final, she won the table tennis and badminton over her opponent Kate Russell.
Russell came fighting back with a victory in the squash but much of the damage was already done, and tennis expert Whiteman secured the points needed for her first elite level World Tour title.
