SUCCESSFUL Bromsgrove Sunday side VBG Fairfield effectively folded following their final league game against Oak Tree Sporting.

Instead the side will reinvent itself next season playing in the Midland League Division Two as Fairfield Villa.

VBG boss Wayne Davis and his assistant Lee Williams will take over Villa after previous manager Paul Oakes stepped down.

Secretary Alan Vaughan explained: "VBG play at Fairfield Villa's ground on Sundays in the Bromsgrove and District League's Premier Division.

"There must be at least six or seven players who turn out for both sides, so we know each other quite well.

"VGB were formed in 1998 and we've been very successful . We've won 18 trophies in the past five years.

"As a result, the Villa board asked both Wayne and Lee if they would take charge.

"It would have been far too much for them to run both sides, so it's with a very heavy heart that we've had to call time on VBG, but we all felt it was the right time to test ourselves at a higher level of football."

They bowed out on a high note by winning the Evesham Hospital Cup last week when beating Bretforton Old Boys in the final.

VBG had already lifted both the Worcester Nursing Home Cup and LMS Shield this season in addition to finishing runners-up in the league to Redditch based side Thomas Brothers.
