BROMSGROVE Sporting manager Paul Smith has warned the hard work starts now.

The Rouslers boss is set to have 32 players take part in the first training session of pre-season on Thursday night, with preparations set to step up with three sessions a week until the friendly programme begins.

Sporting will be aiming to win the Midlands Division One and earn promotion after two years of finishing runners-up.

Smith also brought in another new face when he beat Worcestershire rivals Alvechurch to winger Dayle Kenny, who had been at Pilkington XXX last season.

“Dayle is a great lad and will give us something extra out wide next season,” said Smith.

“I have been talking to a lot of players in recent weeks and some of them are only interested in the money but I only want people here who want to play for me and the club.

“We’ve got 32 players coming to training and we’ll be working hard to make sure we’re ready.”

Smith believes he has 15 players set to sign when registration starts and is looking for three new faces. He may well use the players invited to pre-season to find the striker, left-sided player and centre back he wants.

Former Sporting man Chris Conway and ex-Redditch United and Hinckley AFC striker Marco Adaggio are also set to take part in training.

Meanwhile, the composition of the Midlands Division One has been revealed, with Chelmsley Town and Uttoxeter coming in to replace the defunct Pilkington and champions Coventry United.

With just one promotion place up for grabs there is very little room for error and Smith believes Hinckley AFC look like their biggest rivals.

The manager said: “Hinckley have had a big budget for the last two seasons so I would expect them to be our main rivals.

“Nuneaton Griff also finished just behind us so there are a few teams will be challenging us.”
