AVONCROFT suffered aday to forget as they crashed to an eight-wicket defeat at the hands of Barnards Green Thirds in Worcestershire League Division Three last Saturday.

Croft struggled with the bat and despite almost all of the batting order getting off the mark, they were bowled out for 176 in 37 overs, Josh Cound (35) top-scoring.

Green replied emphatically by making 177-2, with Jez Clarke (44) and Kevin Golder (99 not out) sealing their victory Captain Craig Hughes said: “It was a bad day at the office.

“None of our batsmen really made a big score, many players got in but then were in T20 mode and got out too easily.

“Only George Warren batted with the sufficient level of sensibleness and he got 28 not out.

“We didn’t bowl that badly but we didn’t have a big enough total to defend. There were one or two half chances where we could have taken wickets a bit earlier.”

Croft return home on Saturday to take on high-flying Bartestree and Lugwardine (1pm start) in Worcestershire County Division Three.
