BROMSGROVE D secured promotion to the Summer League Division Five after beating Halesowen.

Playing in the Black Country, they needed a maximum-point 6-0 win to grab the runners-up spot.

The match started well as all three pairs of Aaron Oakes with George Rogers, Max Feltham with Bruce Turner and Chris Hands with Mel McGregor all winning comfortably in two sets.

The change round brought some closer contests with Hands and McGregor being pushed to a tie break before running out winners.

With both other pairs winning well, it gave Bromsgrove the points they needed to just pip Manor Park and Bewdley for promotion.

Captain McGregor said: “We really needed to focus for this one and the whole team came up with the goods when it mattered.

“It’s been great seeing Aaron (Oakes) and George (Rogers) really progress as match players and claim the number one spot in the team and for the whole squad to show the resilience needed in some tough matches.”

Sunday afternoon saw the Ladies E team secure a really important win — this time to keep them in Division Seven.

Playing Ombersley C they won 4-2 which means they are safe from relegation.

Bromsgrove’s heroes were Claire Hancock with Sue Corfield, playing at number three pair, who beat the opposition’s second and third teams.

The other combinations of Avril Pugh with Yvonne Priestman and Claire Carter with Di Horton each lost to the strong Ombersley first pair but then bounced back to beat the second pairs.

It was the the club’s second victory over Ombersley as the previous week the Ladies D team beat them as well.

The 5-1 win means Bromsgrove are just two points behind the Division Seven leaders Fladbury who have finished their season.

The Men’s E side went down 5-1 away to Droitwich D.
