DAN Fox’s hopes of winning an Olympic medal ended after Great Britain’s Men’s hockey team failed to get out of the group stage.

Team GB’s aims of making the quarter-finals were dashed last Friday after a 1-1 draw with Spain.

It meant the team, which finished fourth at London 2012, could only secure second from bottom in Pool A.

Fox, who grew up in Bromsgrove and attended Callowbrook First School, was an ever-present in a side.

The team started with a 4-1 loss to Belgium, drew with New Zealand and then defeated Brazil 9-1 but a 2-1 loss to Australia meant they needed to see off Spain.

GB’s Sam Ward cancelled out David Alegre’s opener.
