RAIN completely washed out the Birmingham League Division One programme, which preserved Bromsgrove’s status for another season while condemning Old Hill and Sutton Coldfield to relegation.

But Bromsgrove skipper Mark Evenson insisted there would be no let up in their final fixtures against third-placed Smethwick and title contenders Brockhampton.

Evenson said: “We will be selecting the strongest side available for the final two games and looking to finish the season on a high note.

“We’re only two places above the drop zone ourselves, which isn’t great. But if we can put back-to-back wins together there’s still a chance we can finish in the top six, which is where we’ve finished up for the past three seasons.

“However, we haven’t put back-to-back wins together all season, which is why we haven’t been able to gain any momentum.

“It’s quite sad in a way to see a famous club like Old Hill going down, but the league has been so competitive this season that eventually you find your level.”

Bromsgrove will be boosted by the inclusion of Worcestershire’s Alexei Kervezee for their final fixtures.

Evenson added: “Alexei only needs another 90 runs or so to reach 1,000 for the season, which would be a fantastic effort. He’s been head and shoulders above the rest of us this season.”

Bromsgrove’s Second XI remain in the running for promotion from Birmingham League Division Two South.

Under the leadership of skipper Adam Jones, Bromsgrove sit second in the table, nine points adrift of leaders Berkswell but 17 points clear of third-placed Pershore.

The Seconds travel to Eastnor on Saturday and then complete the campaign at St Godwald’s Park with a game against Stratford (12.30pm starts).
