HEAD coach Dan Protherough has promised to look at Bromsgrove's pre-match preparation after their first away trip in National League 3 South West resulted with a 34-15 defeat at Cleve.

Protherough said: "We didn't get off the bus and found ourselves 24-0 down within the first half hour. Perhaps we need to look at how we warm up because we've not started our first two games particularly well.

"We conceded some soft scores early on but we managed to get ourselves back into the game at 24-15.

"But then we didn't deal with the second half kick-off very well and immediately conceded a scrum, from which they scored another try.

"I thought we improved from the opening game against Lydney but we have to become more clinical when we create chances, show more belief and start turning pressure into points."

Fly half James Upton opened Bromsgrove's account with a penalty and then converted a try from No.8 Sam Monterrey.

Full back Jack Pons then plundered a second try which brought Bromsgrove right back into contention before a disastrous start to the second half gave Cleve the advantage.

Bromsgrove play hosts to Bristol based Dings Crusaders this Saturday and should have their ranks boosted with several players back available.

North Midlands prop and skipper Bobby Green returns with hooker James Gunther and No.8 Tom Hardwick to bolster the pack while Jon Critchlow should also be included in the back after family commitments prevented him from travelling to Cleve.

Protherough added: "We need to start turning Finstall Park into a fortress especially as team have a travel a long distance to play us."
