WHILE Bromsgrove Cricket Club were busy securing their status in Birmingham League Division One for next season some of their lower level sides savoured plenty of success.

The Second XI clinched promotion from Birmingham League Second Division South after finishing runners-up behind champions Berkswell.

Bromsgrove beat Stratford Seconds by 49 runs in their final game to seal promotion, but it was a close run affair.

Ryan Pedley plundered a run-a-ball 93 not out after Bromsgrove were put into bat and reached 231 for five from their allotted 45 overs.

Pedley put on 148 for the third wicket with Alistair Hickman, who added 43 as the pair helped set Stratford a testing target to chase.

In reply, Stratford were removed for 182 all out with just four balls to spare.

Alex Wilkinson with four for 47 caused considerable damage with the ball but it was Mark Meacham's five for 18 off nine overs that eventually secured victory.

There was more success for Bromsgrove's Fourth XI who comprise of talented juniors and wily veterans.

They thumped Kidderminster in their final fixture when Neale Ingram and Tom Downing both scored their initial centuries for Bromsgrove, promoting them to Division Two of the Second XI competition in the Worcester County League.

Bromsgrove Under-11's beat Beacon CC to win their league competition while the Under-10's were successful in their County Cup competition after defeating Droitwich in the final.

Delighted Bromsgrove Cricket club chairman Nick Husbands said: "We have invested considerably in junior cricket and now, thanks to the efforts of our group of dedicated coaches together with our enthusiastic and talented youngsters, we are reaping the rewards."
