BROMSGROVE Sporting kept the pressure on Midland League Division One leaders Lichfield City with a commanding 5-1 success at Pelsall Villa.

But the Rouslers had to come from behind after Osiris Robertson had given Pelsall a surprise lead.

Sporting boss Paul Smith insisted: "The goal came completely against the run of play. But we kept knocking on the door and in the end we could have won by double figures.

"The overall performance was getting back to somewhere we should be, because we haven't been putting sides to the sword when we've had the chance."

Goals from Nathan Walker and new signing for Redditch United Jason Cowley put Sporting ahead just before half time.

A second goal by Walker early in the second half followed by strikes from Craig Jones and Robbin Bunn sealed the points.

Smith added: "It didn't help that we lost Sean Brain to Rugby Town on Friday night.

"I picked up Sean from Stratford Town's youth side and he's been superb for us.

"He wanted to play at a higher level and Evesham United came in for him during the close season but I didn't feel that was the right move for him at the time.

"Sean went straight into Rugby Town's side on Saturday and played the full 90 minutes. We spoke after the game and Sean felt he did OK. Everyone at Sporting wishes him well for the future."

Smith has responded by bringing in Jason Cowley from Redditch, the 19 year old having scored 28 times in 26 games for Redditch Borough, their reserve side.

Smith added: "We will need to work on Jason's fitness as he's spent most of the season sitting on the bench for Redditch United, who still retain his Southern League signiature."

Sporting will be missing Keenan Meakin-Richards for the visit of Nuneaton Griff this Saturday.

However Sporting are able to welcome back Dan Morris, who missed the Pelsall Villa match through work commitments while Aaron Roberts has served a one match ban.

Smith will also check on the fitness of hamstring injury victim Jake Willcox before naming his side to face Griff.
