DROITWICH men’s A team began their Herefordshire and Worcestershire Winter Tennis League Division One season with a 4-0 defeat at home to Worcester A.
Captain James Nam and Ben Buckley lost 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 and 7-5, 7-6, while Oliver Shier and Mark Jones fell 6-4, 5-7, 7-5 and 6-2, 6-1.
The men’s E team lost 3-1 to Kidderminster A in Division Nine. Mark Venables and Steve Whittaker lost twice, while Ricky Hollander and Chris Passey fell 6-4, 6-2 but then won 6-7, 6-4, 7-6.
Droitwich ladies’ D team beat their E side 4-0 in the Division Nine opener.
Jackie Passey and Christina Sellers beat Jackie Holliday and Alison Whiteman in straight sets and saw off Hazel Briggs and Eileen Probyn-Skinner 6-7, 6-2, 6-3. Anne Everard and Elizabeth Fielden won twice in straight sets.
The A team lost their first Division One match 3-1 at Pershore A. Lauren Whiteman and Heidi Harris lost 6-2, 6-1 and won 6-4, 7-6 but Penny Maidment and Marelize Yorke fell 6-1, 6-4 and 6-3, 6-1.
Youngsters James Lewis, Jacob Dufty, Nico Fawcus and Thomas Fawcus did the club proud at the League B Mini Red Tournament in Malvern.
