FABULOUS Fairfield Villa fought back to secure a 2-1 win over Barnt Green Spartak and climb to fourth place in Midland League Division Two as a result.

Villa's victory was all the more creditable as manager Wayne Davis had to revamp the spine of his side with several key players unavailable.

Davis was without influential Lewis Smith, Scott Smith and Ben Smith in addition to midfield man Joe Brookes.

He drafted in Chris Lowe to partner Danny Price in central defence and the pairing made a real impact.

Spartak went in front thanks to an uncharacteristic mistake from Villa goalkeeper Chris Mole to lead 1-0 at half time.

Twice Villa marksman Connor Collins was kept at bay by two top class saves from Spartak's impressive goalkeeper.

It was seasoned campaigner Stuart Hall who turned matters around with two close range goals before blowing his chances of a hat-trick when having a last minute penalty saved.

Villa spokesman Paul Oakes said: "Normally Chris Lowe would have taken the penalty because he's got one hell of a shot on him, but he gave way to Stuart because he was on a hat-trick.

"I must admit there was a bit of trepidation going into the game with so many key players missing but the spirit and togetherness of the side came through".

Villa entertain Smithswood Firs this Saturday where a victory could take them up to top spot providing other results go in their favour.
