MARTIAL arts students from Droitwich and Bromsgrove achieved a 100 per cent pass rate at their grading.

More than 70 children and adults from the Defence Lab martial arts and fitness centres successfully kicked and punched their way through the curriculum.

The youngest candidates, aged between four and seven, and the Street Smart seven to 12 year olds were tested on work from the DL Kids children’s programme, displaying confidence and teamwork.

They displayed high levels of fitness and determination while also having fun.

Children also showed their knowledge of self-defence situations.

Older students were tested on their ability in the DNA Fight Science schedule through high-energy, multiple-opponent attacks, situational awareness, scenario-based training and sparring.

“The effort and energy these guys put into their gradings is always inspirational,” said lead instructor James Boyle.

“You get to see the students performing at their best with awesome attitude and camaraderie and the skills on show are a testament to their passion and dedication.”

Droitwich Street Smart student Harry Jones, 12, passed his black/red grade — the highest available in the DL Kids programme before moving up to the adults’ class.

Boyle continued: “Harry and his family have been training with us for many years now and he has always given his best in class.

“It’s fantastic to see how he has grown over the years, both in training and in life. We are all really looking forward to our next grading day now.

“We have just added brand new Thai boxing classes to our schedule with a vastly-experienced Muay Thai instructor.

“It’s so exciting to see the students and the classes growing so well.”

Defence Lab run classes at St Peter’s First School, Droitwich, and Aston Fields Middle and St John’s Middle, both Bromsgrove.
