FANTASTIC Fairfield Villa put the dampener on Paget Rangers' big day out by pulling off an excellent 4-3 win in the Presidents Cup.

The match proved the first to take place on Boldmere St Michael's new synthetic pitch, with whom Paget groundshare.

But Villa stole their thunder with an absorbing first half display.

Villa spokesman Paul Oakes admitted: "Everything was stacked against us. Paget haven't lost since the opening game of the season and have been scoring goals for fun recently having netted 19 times in their past three games.

"But we were fantastic in the first half and played some scintillating football."

Villa's Ben Smith became the first player to score on Paget's new pitch.

Although Paget were quick to level, Villa regained the lead and went 4-1 ahead thanks to a Connor Collins hat-trick, two of the goals arriving from the penalty spot.

Paget did manage to claw the score back to 4-3, prolific Non League striker Mark Bellingham coming off the bench to net one of them, but Villa held on.

A delighted Paul Oakes added: "Paget had their skipper sent off in the second half for two yellow cards and that seemed to galvanise them. But we seem to have the bit firmly between our teeth at the moment."

Villa will now play Continental Star in the President's Cup quarter finals.

This Saturday, Villa return to Midland League Division Two action when they travel to Knowle.
