BROMSGROVE Sporting boss Paul Smith believes his side played some of their best football of the season against Lichfield City as they booked their place in the FA Vase Third Round and a trip to fellow Midland League Division One side Nuneaton Griff.

The Rouslers will visit Griff on December 3 bidding to take the club into unchartered territory as they have never gone beyond this stage of the Vase.

But boss Smith has already warned his players about any complacency creeping in and said: "We played Nuneaton Griff at our place a few weeks ago and beat them 4-2 - but they are one of the better sides in our league. They'll be really pleased about the draw, especially as they're at home and they know all about us.

"They could have drawn some tough sides with the likes of Westfields, Sporting Khalsa and Coleshill Town still in the competition.

"This is the last of the regionalised rounds with a place in the last 32 awaiting the winners "But the competition seems to be bringing out the best in us and we started the game against Lichfield as we'd finished the previous one with Atherstone and we could have been four or five goals up by half time.

"Lichfield had a period of the game in the second half and it wasn't until Jason Cowley got the third goal that we really put the game to bed."

Smith was equally delighted by the manner in which the 747-strong crowd got behind his side.

He added: "The crowd was magnificent, very loud and vocal. Lichfield brought a coachload of supporters which only added to the atmosphere and it all helps with plans to progress both on and off the pitch.

"When I took over the average attendance was around 210, now it's nearer 500, so it's going the right way "Everyone is on a high at the moment and all pulling in the right direction."

Smith has arranged a friendly with West Midlands Police this week where the likes of fit again Luke Dugmore, Luke Edwards, Tony Clarke, Sean Brain and Alfie Bloom are set to feature ahead of Saturday's home clash against struggling Stafford Town.
