FABULOUS Fairfield Villa made a flying start to the New Year following festive victories over Continental Star and local rivals Redditch Borough.

Villa soon dimmed Star's lights with an emphatic 4-0 win where the result was effectively wrapped up by half time.

Bottom side Star didn't help themselves when they gifted Villa the opener after a Dan Wilkes cross resulted with an own goal.

Further goals from Ellis Blakemore and Jimmy Ward put Villa 3-0 up by half time before a far post header from Ben Smith completed the scoring.

Villa spokesman Paul Oakes said: "We were so much on top that manager Wayne Davis was able to make three substitutions on 55 minutes.

"Although Star are bottom, they're not the worst side we've played this season but we're playing really well at the moment.

"We should have been awarded a penalty before opening the scoring when Dan Wilkes was rugby tackled to the floor after having his shirt pulled back first, but the referee ignored it. Even his linesman couldn't believe it and was left shaking his head."

Villa followed up on Monday by beating in-form Redditch Borough 3-1.

Connor Collins led from the front and fired in the first two goals after former Villa player Jamie Hatfield had pulled a goal back.

Late substitute Jack Connelly converted a third to seal the points and help secure Villa into second spot, three points adrift of leaders Alvis Sporting Club in Midland League Division Two.

Villa take a break from league action this Saturday when they entertain rivals Paget Rangers in the Smedley Crooke Cup (2pm kick-off). The winners will take on West Midlands League Premier side Malvern Town in the quarter finals.
