FAIRFIELD Villa fell flat on their face this week when thumped 5-0 by Midland League Two rivals Paget Rangers who unceremoniously dumped them out of the Smedley Crook Cup.

Paget had already put the issue beyond doubt after going 4-0 up by half time having opened their account with a goal within three minutes of the kick-off.

Villa spokesman Paul Oakes offered no excuses and admitted: "We were given a footballing lesson. We beat Paget 4-3 at their place earlier in the season and they were clearly out for revenge.

"Three of their first four goals were excellent, while the other was an own goal.

"I could say that we were poor, but that would be doing Paget a disservice.

"We have to take this result on the chin, admit they were better than us and bounce back as we've done following previous disasters."

Villa travel to Smithswood Firs this Saturday looking to cement second spot in Midland League Two.
