ALVECHURCH continued their Midland League title charge with a comprehensive 2-0 win at AFC Wulfrunians this week.

First half goals from Danny Dubidat and Connor Deards did the trick.

Church boss Ian Long admitted: "We weren't at our best, but it's all about results, rather than performances at this stage of the season.

"In truth, we should have won by more as we missed a few chances, while goalkeeper Paul Evans wasn't seriously tested."

Top marksman Josh March featured for the first hour after shaking off the effects of a hamstring injury which saw him withdrawn within 15 minutes of last weeks clash at Heanor Town.

Long added: "Josh passed a late fitness test after having prolonged treatment throughout the week. We took him off after an hour just to protect him."

Church were due to face title rivals Westfields last night (Tuesday) in the MFL League Cup before entertaining Coventry Sphinx this Saturday in a Midland League match.

Long added: "Westfields have brought in several new signings down the spine of their side and I feel its a shame their management didn't keep faith with the players who have served them so well this far."

Long hopes to have Ryan Winwood, Dave Bellis, Karl Edwards and Mark Smith all available to face Sphinx, a side they've traditionally struggled against.
