RECORD breaking Bromsgrove Sporting have booked their place in the Buildbase FA Vase quarter finals following a fabulous 2-1 win over Western League leaders Bristol Manor Farm.

A bumper 1,487 strong crowd packed into the Victoria Ground, which was easily the biggest in Sporting's short history and they witnessed a compelling contest.

Jackpot Jason Cowley cracked home both Sporting goals and could have added more.

But from a position where Sporting were comparatively coasting home, Bristol Manor produced a late sting in the tail to set up a jittery final few minutes as the pressed forward in search of a late equaliser.

Chances proved at a premium in the first half before Sporting brought the game to life just before half time when Cowley converted the opening goal on 44 minutes.

He finished off an impressive three man move which saw full back Aaron Roberts release Chris Lloyd down the right flank, who in turn delivered a low cross which Cowley swept home with a first time shot.

Sporting stepped up the pace after half time and Bristol Manor had to thank goalkeeper Ashley Clark for keeping them in the game at this point.

He pulled off two top class saves to keep out both Lloyd and Cowley as Sporting began to find gaps in the Bristol Manor defence.

Sporting were finally rewarded with a second goal on 54 minutes with Ahmed Ali the architect, shrugging off several challengers as he battled his way to the bye-line before squaring the ball back for Cowley to slot home from close range.

Bristol Manor almost hit back immediately when striker Ben Bament was played through but Sporting skipper Craig Jones produced a precision last-ditch tackle to divert the danger.

Cowley was now becoming a constant threat through his pace and could have scored several more goals.

He blazed over when well placed on 64 minutes and then appeared to be brought down by Bristol Manor central defender Lloyd Mills, but referee Declan Bourne refused to award a penalty which the crowd bayed for.

Cowley then underlined his class by beating two defenders to send Reece Hewitt racing through on goal but Clark came to rescue by finger-tipping his shot round the post.

Bristol Manor suddenly silenced the crowd on 80 minutes when Sporting shotstopper Ryan Price proved unable to hold a powerful long range shot from substitute Dean Stamp and Troy Simpson was first to react and force home at the second attempt.

Sporting found themselves under pressure as Bristol Manor pushed forward in an attempt to save the tie.

They thought they had levelled on 86 minutes when Simpson netted at the far post - only to be given offside.

Stamp tried his luck with another hard-hit effort which Price palmed around the post.

Sporting weathered the storm and should have netted a third deep into stoppage time when substitute Tom Craine set up Liam Spink, who could only blaze wide.

Bromsgrove Sporting: Price; Roberts, Morris, Ali, Jones, Edwards, Lloyd (Wilson 90), Spink, Cowley ( Craine 84), Wills (Meakin-Richards 64), Hewitt. Subs not used: Nicol, Shorthouse.
