DROITWICH’S Kazoku-Kan Judo Club members Lucy Skinner and Eleanor Warburton attended the Midland Area Age Bands Championships.

In the girls’ first ranked competition they both placed fifth in their categories amid fierce competition.

Sensei Rob Alloway was there as both support and to officiate.

He said: “It was a tough competition and the girls were competing at this level for the first time.

“They both performed very well despite not gaining any medals.”

Instructor Rich Morrish said: “It’s like we say to all our students — it’s the taking part that counts, not the medals you bring home, and that makes you a true champion. We are very proud of their achievements.”

The new club crowned their first member of the month in the hard-working Molly Charlwood who has returned to the judo mat after almost a year away.

Club bosses praised her determination, attitude and team spirit and she will present the next accolade later this month.

Meanwhile, Alloway has been offered a place in the British masters squad, opening the door to world and European competitions.
