ALVECHURCH boss Ian Long has called for more supporters to get behind his table topping side as they inch ever closer towards the Midland League Premier title.

The Church have climbed nine points clear of closest rivals Coleshill Town following a comprehensive 2-0 win at Loughborough Students this week.

First half goals from Connor Deards and Josh March with his 28th strike of the season, did the trick to keep Church firmly in the driving seat with nine league games remaining.

Long admitted: "We were far from our best, but we managed the game particularly well in the second half.

"We dropped into third gear after half time and didn't go all out, hell for leather, but ran the clock down instead.

"We must have taken over 60 supporters to Loughborough which was great, but we do need more.

"Those extra supporters might be just what is required to see us over the line this season and I'm appealing to all Alvechurch folk to come and get behind us because the players really deserve it."

Church entertain Long Eaton United this Saturday in the Midland League and then play host to Brocton next Tuesday in the J W Hunt Cup when Long is expected to ring the changes.

He has brought in goalkeeper Lewis Williams from Walsall Wood as cover for Paul Evans.

Long added: "I need to have all bases covered. Paul has been excellent for us all season and pulled off a great first half save against Loughborough. It will be nice for him to have someone to train with and increases competition, which is never a bad thing."
