HOSTS Droitwich women's E team beat Hagley 4-0 to move further away from the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Winter Tennis League Division Nine East drop zone.

Caroline Hawley and Jackie Holliday combined well to win 7-5, 6-3 and 6-4, 6-1.

Julie Rhodes and Eileen Probyn-Skinner also demonstrated quality teamwork as they won 6-2, 6-4 before battling to a 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 triumph.

Droitwich women's C team travelled to Bromsgrove D with all four matches going the distance.

Karen Hay and Jackie Passey were unlucky not to pick up a victory in either of their matches, losing 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 and 6-1, 4-6, 6-1.

Suzy Levay and Linda Price enjoyed a 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 success before being edged out 4-6, 7-6, 6-3.

The 3-1 loss meant Droitwich were relegated from Division Six East.

Droitwich mixed B team kept their survival hopes alive in Division Two following a hard-fought winning draw at home to Bewdley A.

Rich Clive and Penny Maidment won 7-5, 6-4 and lost 6-4, 6-3.

Margaret Hughes and Ben Steel romped home 6-4, 6-0 and fell 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 but the extra set gave Droitwich a vital winning draw.

The men’s A team remained mid-table in Division One following a 3-1 home defeat to Bewdley A.

Mark Jones and Jon Sarriegui lost their first match in straight sets before coming closer in their second, losing 6-3, 6-7, 7-6.

Matt Baker and Lee Cowan were edged in two tight sets 7-6, 7-6 but responded well with a determined display to win 7-5, 4-6, 7-6.
