DROITWICH Amateur Boxing Academy's Joe ‘The Golden Boy’ Doyle reached the National Junior Championships final but there was disappointment for Liam Jones who was narrowly defeated in his semi.
The club-mates travelled to Grantham, Lincolnshire, to take on Hamza Hajee Sheriff from East London BC and Syed Ali from Rochdale’s Hamer BC respectively.
Midlands champion Doyle was merciless in his bout as he overpowered his taller, southpaw opponent with a mix of well-targeted head shots and savage body punches to clinch a unanimous points decision and maintain his undefeated season.
He now meets Kieran Oakley from Waterside BC, Southampton, for the national title on Easter Sunday.
Competing in his first championships Jones proved he can perform at the highest level after delivering a spirited display against northern champion Ali and was pipped by only two points.
