RECORD breaking Bromsgrove Sporting boss Paul Smith insists he doesn't want the season to end.

His Sporting side show no signs of letting up with just two games standing between them and an unbeaten league campaign.

Smith admitted: "It would have been easy for performances to drop after wrapping up the Midland League Division One title.

"But the players have really got the bit between their teeth at the moment and really want to go through the season unbeaten.

"The first half against Atherstone last Saturday was possibly the best we've played all season.

"We were 4-0 up at half time and in truth, it could have been eight.

"Atherstone tried to get in our faces early on and bully us, but we stood up to it.

"Jason Cowley took the brunt of it with a couple of whacks that were really naughty. But he answered it in the best possible way with a couple of goals, but the whole side played out of this world.

"It was really good stuff. We've now won 18 games on the bounce and it's such a shame the season has to end because the player's are really in the groove at the moment."

Sporting were due to visit Nuneaton Griff tonight (Wednesday) in a Midland League match before bringing down the curtain at home to Lichfield City on Saturday.

Sporting will be presented with the trophy on Saturday and Smith invites all supporters to join the players and staff afterwards for a celebration.

He adds: "We're hoping for a bumper turnout and we'll enjoy the evening.

"Then I will sit down with the board next week and see where we want to go for next season.

"At the moment we've still got two more hurdles to cross and it's all about going through the season unbeaten.

"I would be really interested to know the last time anyone achieved the same feat at our level of non-league football."

Sporting have another date in their diary on May 6 when they take on Midland League Division Two side Coton Green in the Smedley Crook Cup semi-finals.

But having been so embroiled in their league title chase this term, Smiths admits he has no idea who the winners face in the final.
