JOE Doyle’s hard work and determination finally paid dividends as the Droitwich boxer was crowned England’s number one by lifting the National Junior Championships title.

The 14-year-old Blessed Edward Oldcorne College pupil and three-time Midlands champion travelled to Liverpool to defeat Kieran Oakley from Southampton’s Waterside Boxing Club in the 40kg weight category.

Following Sian O’Toole’s success at ABA youth level his victory clinched a second national title for Droitwich Amateur Boxing Academy this season.

After his opponent shaded the first round in a fast and furious opening Doyle’s superior work-rate clinched the second to set up a winner-takes-all final-round decider.

The Spa fighter successfully maintained his momentum with a relentless display of combination punches to the body and head overpowering Oakley to secure the title.

Following defeats in the semi-final and by just one point in the final of his previous national campaigns Doyle’s victory was richly deserved according to his coach and father Jayson.

“Joe’s travelled the length and breadth of the country to not only box the best of the best but to train and spar and remains undefeated in his nine contests this season,” he said.

“All the training, running, early nights and watching what he eats has paid off for Joe and this is a massive achievement for him in the light of his preparation and sacrifices.

“It’s fantastic to watch anybody succeed in sport when they work so hard for something but it makes you very proud when it’s your own son and brings more acclaim for Droitwich Amateur Boxing Academy.”
